The Trade Opportunity
The purpose of this weekly article is to analyze the top trading opportunity of the past week. This is to improve our identification and execution of high quality trade ideas that meet our setup requirements.
Each article will focus on a stock that meets one of three of the main categories of setups I trade:
- Range Breakout / VCP / tight area breakout
- Pullback to Support/ Key moving average
- Gapper / Post Gap Setup
These articles are like taking a step into the batting cage and loading up a historical at bat from an Ace pitcher in the world series – they will help you prepare and execute in future situations by studying important moments from the past.
The setups we cover will appear again and again in each market cycle
So far we have covered these case studies:

Please let me know in the comments what other topics you would like me to write about.
This past week we continued to chop sideways, but there were opportunities in individual names

Here are a few names worth studying from the past week
CRCL range breakout. Very fast mover and in theme

AAOI range breakout

TSSI positive expectation breaker

COIN range breakout after 21ema reclaim

Today however we will be focusing on CRWV which had a 10ema range breakout and was up 20% from the entry point. This setup was featured in the trade lab reports.

Discovery
How would you get CRWV on your radar?
CRWV should be one of the go to stocks to track this market cycle given it’s high momentum move, being part of the AI theme, and being a recent IPO
CRWV has also been featured at multiple setups during this move including before this entry. Here is the setup from the day before it broke out.

Once you’ve identified the setup, it’s down to the execution.
Setup and Execution
For range breakouts I will typically look at a 65 minute timeframe to look for slight lower pivots. This allows me to manage risk tighter as my stop will be at the low of the day.
Here was the 65 minute chart of CRWV. Note how there was a range level that has been set that was slightly lower.

On the best day of entry CRWV shook out off the open, something that has been happening a lot recently before u turning and pushing higher.
The first aggressive entry would have been up through the prior 65 minute bar’s low on an upside reversal entry tactic with a stop at the low of the day around 2%. This also lined up with a reclaim of the daily VWAP.
The next entry would have been on the break of the range pivot with a stop LOD around 4.5%
Here is a 5 minute chart of the opening action:

Note the U turn entry opportunity and the other 2 potential entries as higher lows formed.
On a daily chart here is what the rest of the action looked like. We closed strong that first day above the pivots and then crucially, followed through the next day and even broke out of the High tight flag consolidation.
Then we formed a constructive tight day and then reconfirmed further.

At this point the expectation is continued trend above the 10ema. That moving average is now above the cost basis from the entry and swing traders would have sold some into strength either on Day 2 or on the reconfirmation Friday and would now be trailing the rest of their position waiting for a negative close below the 10ema which is the moving average of record.
CRWV has strong momentum and theme behind it. There will be large down days and reversals but for now it continues to trend.
The trend will likely end with a blow off top or a failed breakout from a consolidation. Once it tops it will likely drop hard potentially 30% in a few days so know your plan and exit points if trading.
Takeaways
This range breakout shows the benefit of identifying tight entries in a high flying name. By entering while managing risk tightly, you can let the asymmetry of the trend work in your favor. This is also a great example of strong behavior after an entry. Close at highs, follow the next day and the next week. Exactly what you want to see.
